The research analyzes emotional intelligence in parents of students with disabilities at the Manuel Duato Special Basic Education Center in Lima, based on three dimensions: attention, clarity and emotional repair. The study was conducted by Andy Robinson Quispe Escobar as a thesis to obtain the professional degree of Bachelor in Psychology.
This research studies levels of emotional intelligence in parents of students with disabilities, considering the ability to attend to, understand and regulate one’s own emotions. The study included a sample of 210 parents and used the questionnaire Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24), an instrument for assessing emotional attention, emotional clarity and emotional repair. The study had a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive design.
The results show that most participants had adequate levels in the three dimensions analyzed: 76,7 % reached an adequate level of emotional attention, 79 % of emotional clarity, and 79,5 % of emotional repair. These results provide insight into how families of students with disabilities managed their emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The research also examines results according to variables such as sex, age, marital status, education level, and the student’s type of disability, providing evidence about a family population that remains understudied in the Peruvian context.
