Yesterday, the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony was held. On a night full of surprises, in which the Korean film Parasite was the big winner, another historic moment also took place.
Actors Shia LaBeouf and Zack Gottsagen—who has Down syndrome—took the stage to present the award for Best Live Action Short Film. They are the stars of the film “The Peanut Butter Falcon”, released the previous year. This marked the first time an actor with Down syndrome presented an award at the most important ceremony in the film world. Gottsagen delivered the iconic phrase “and the Oscar goes to,” and LaBeouf then completed the announcement by naming the winner.
With this event, the Academy took an important step toward inclusion by showing that a person with a disability can go far in the film industry.
