NHK announced that on January 7 a new parasports anime titled Breakers on the educational program YOU on the channel Tensai TV-kun.
The anime will focus on four para-athletes who meet a marginalized sports scientist named Ren Narita. The anime will focus on four different parasports: wheelchair basketball, track racing and high jump, goalball, and Paralympic swimming. Shinichiro Miki will play the marginalized sports scientist Ren Narita. Sakiko Tamagawa will play the robot assistant of Narita Tama. Other cast members include:-

We are very much looking forward to this anime, which promotes parasports, while also hoping that its narrative and story are consistent with the social and human rights models rather than focusing on medicalized or pity-based discourse. We will analyze the story to determine whether its approach truly promotes respect for persons with disabilities as persons and encourages the removal of societal barriers that are the real obstacle to this group’s enjoyment and exercise of rights.
