On June 20, 2019, at its 8556th meeting, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2475 concerning persons with disabilities and armed conflict.
This resolution seeks to ensure that persons with disabilities are included in all matters concerning the protection of their rights in armed conflict, in an adequate, timely, inclusive and accessible manner, taking into account the specific needs of persons with disabilities. In this regard, it emphasizes particular concern for women and children with disabilities.
The resolution also seeks to empower persons with disabilities in participation and representation in humanitarian action, conflict prevention and resolution, reconciliation, reconstruction and peacebuilding. It also calls for United Nations peacekeeping and peacebuilding personnel to be trained on the rights and needs of persons with disabilities. It further emphasizes improving the collection of geographically disaggregated data and ensuring that reports address disability-related issues.
